I’ve been looking into Phillip Capital, one of the established financial services and brokerage groups operating in Malaysia.
One of the main strengths of Phillip Capital is its long presence in the Malaysian financial market. Phillip Capital Sdn Bhd was established in 1995 and has expanded from derivatives trading into stockbroking, offering clients access to Malaysian and international markets. The company currently provides services including stocks, futures, CFDs and global market access.

Phillip Capital has also received recognition from Bursa Malaysia. At the Bursa Malaysia Excellence Awards 2025, it was champion for Best Retail Derivatives Trading Participant, first runner-up for Best Institutional Derivatives Trading Participant and second runner-up for Best Overall Derivatives Trading Participant.
However, investors should also be aware of Phillip Capital’s regulatory history.
In December 2015, the Securities Commission Malaysia took administrative action against Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd and Phillip Mutual Berhad over lapses in their middle-office functions. The SC stated that these lapses resulted in non-compliance with requirements relating to compliance functions, unit trust funds and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing requirements. Both entities were reprimanded and required to implement remedial measures and undergo external assessment before launching new funds.
Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd, the former name of today's Phillip Capital Sdn Bhd, also faced regulatory action in 2015. The SC cited lapses in its middle-office functions relating to AML/CFT requirements and a failure to maintain written evidence that its internal audit had performed an annual examination of its operations. The company was reprimanded and required to implement remedial measures and an external assessment.
There was also a more minor compliance matter in November 2020. Phillip Capital Management was fined RM2,000 by the SC for submitting statistical returns for two wholesale funds one business day late.
Investors should also be careful about potential clone entities. The Securities Commission Malaysia has previously listed “Potential clone entity – Phillip Capital 315” on its Investor Alert List in June 2024, and “Potential clone entity – Phillip Wealth Planners” was added in May 2024. These entries refer to potential unauthorised clone entities and should not be confused with the legitimate Phillip Capital businesses.
Overall, Phillip Capital has a long-established presence, a broad range of financial products and access to both Malaysian and international markets. At the same time, its history includes regulatory actions involving compliance and AML/CFT controls.
The existence of regulatory actions does not automatically mean that Phillip Capital is illegal or unsafe. Similarly, the appearance of clone entities using the Phillip name does not mean that the legitimate Phillip Capital is responsible for those activities.
